Cloud and DevOps Projects

Here are a few of my successful Cloud and DevOps projects in my past and current work. Perhaps you are at the start or middle of your journey to something similar to these, you may confide with me so I can share the learnings that made these successful and you no longer have to undergo the hardship I've encountered.

Orchestrators and Containers

Head of Cloud Services | Responsible | Accountable

A company is set to to build booking app requiring fast, low overhead, and fault tolerant hardware to accommodate high booking demands during peak season. My team championed Containers and Kubernetes a technology that allows these apps to run in a scalable and fault tolerant infrastructure in cloud. As a result; no unplanned downtime ever took place for the last 3 years. All booking transactions are accommodated by the hardware even at peak season where they used to have challenges in the past.

DevOps CICD

Head of Cloud Services | Responsible | Accountable

Apps in the past takes 10 days lead time to get new features in production due to series of IT supply value chain that needed to comply. I championed together with my team re-engineering the process and built DevOps automated CICD pipeline. As a result; application deployment were reduced to 15 minutes, 0 downtime, and release frequency can be as many as 14X per day.

Edge Computing

Head of Cloud Services | Responsible | Accountable

Built a disaster recovery for containerized application in a company for their mission critical app. Before; cloud regional downtime is estimated to take 5 days to recover. Using AWS Edge Computing my team was able to reduce the Recovery Point Objective and Recovery Time Objective to 15 minutes seamless failover.[on selected pilot apps].

Proprietary Kubernetes  Exit

Head of Cloud Services | Responsible | Accountable

Due to the recent merger and acquisition of a technology. The entity new direction no longer suits the long term  technology strategy of our company. I lead the decisive exit of ~55 application running from proprietary Kubernetes to AWS EKS. The initial timeline estimate was 18 months but my team was able to pull it off in just 2 months without any hiccup. This prevented our company from having to suffer price increase, compatibility issues, and rework due to architecture changes.

Cloud Migration

Head of Cloud Services | Responsible | Accountable

Migrated ~95 Apps, ~200 virtual machine from on-premise to cloud in 2 years in a company. Alongside with the migration is the elimination of critical and high technical debts of these application resulting to compliance. Performance and obsolescence has also been addressed through re-architecture of some applications.

Cloud Security Compliance

Head of Cloud Services | Responsible | Accountable

Improved the cloud security posture of legacy apps running in Azure by an increase of ~30% score rating in a company. As a result; we were able to extend the life span of some applications, harden infrastructure, and become security compliant.

Head of Cloud Services | Responsible | Accountable

Achieve ~500K USD annual cloud cost savings in company in the Philippines by doing house keeping, hardware optimization, hardware upgrades, and automation of maintenance tasks such as disk lifecycle, start stop of unused server. Reservation of Instance and Savings Plans alongside with private pricing contributed to even bigger savings.
